Trenton pest control

We New Jersey's top experts in rodent control. We are not a typical Trenton rat removal or pest control company. We don't treat rats or mice like insects, because they are not - they are mammals! You can't just use poison to get rid of them, like you can with insects. Unlike most Trenton pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions. We don't just use poison every month. We solve your rodent problem forever, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas, no matter how small, with steel
  • Set a dozen or more rat or mouse traps in the house and attic
  • Remove all rodents as they are caught and monitor for activity
  • Once there is no more activity and no more caught, we're done
  • When necessary, we clean rodent droppings, replace insulation, and repair chewed electric wires

Trenton Rodent Removal Tip:

Different Rat Traps That Are Humane
Discovering you've got a rat problem is a distressing situation. For those with a fear of rats, it's an absolute nightmare. You want to get rid of them as soon as possible. Therefore, you're looking for a quick and easy solution.

You might be tempted to kill the rats. But for many this is inhumane. After all, the rats don't mean you harm. They're just trying to survive, by any means necessary.

Thankfully, there are large numbers of products available that can humanely kill or catch the rats.

Let's go through each one.

Electric traps
Killing instantly is widely agreed to be the kindest thing to do. No one wishes for a long-drawn-out death with pain and suffering. Glue boards must be checked frequently to ensure rats aren't starving to death. Snap traps don't always kill on the first blow. But electric traps – the ones that deliver 8,000 volts of electricity – will kill the rat immediately. There's no quicker way to go.

The traps function much like other traps. There is a bait, which is placed on the trap (peanut butter works well). The rat is attracted to the bait. Upon entering the trap, it receives the deadly shock and is killed instantly. Analyses shows it only takes 1/100th of a second.

Live traps
Next up are the live traps. These involve catching the rat, in a cage or a bucket, and then releasing the rat into the wild. Ideally, far away from your property.

rodent trapping At first glance, this seems like the most humane. After all, the rat escapes with its life. But consider for a moment what the rat experiences. Upon getting caught, it will likely spend hours in a bucket or cage. Then once it is finally discovered, it is thrown into an entirely new environment. In no time at all, it is probably food for one of the area's numerous predators.

Still, they're significantly more humane than many other forms of deadly traps.

Cage rat traps

Cage rat traps are amongst the most common live traps in use. The mechanism is simple. Bait is placed at the back of the trap. The rat enters to get the bait. By doing so, they trigger the mechanism and become trapped in the cage.

The trap can be used again and again. Plus, it doesn't harm the rat. Use the handle on top to transport the rat. Flick the lever and the rat is released. It's that simple.

Bucket rat traps

Bucket traps are also relatively common. Bait is placed in the air above a platform. The platform rests above a bucket. Once the rat ventures onto the platform to get the bait, the platform collapses and the rat falls into the bucket.

Some people fill the buckets with water. However, it can take hours for the rats to drown. Even glue traps are preferable to that.

Bucket traps have a significant advantage over cage traps. They'll cage more than one rat at a time. But that's not a particularly pleasant experience for the rats in question.

One to avoid
Rat poisons are one of the most painful ways to kill a rat. Contrary to popular belief, the poison takes hours to work and involves agonizing pain. For most people, this isn't a desirable outcome. If they do want to kill the rat, they wish it a quick and painless death. Therefore, avoid rat poisons. Plus, if the poison is actually powerful enough to kill the rat quickly, it's likely to inflict unintended harm on pets or even small children.

Overall, the best method for humanely killing rats is with the electric shock trap. The most humane method for catching and releasing rats is via a cage trap. However, these traps leave the rat vulnerable to predators later on. The choice is yours.
